Start with the job of the pack
Ask whether the pouch will be a compact single portion, a small multi-use pack or one component inside a carton. Then ask how it reaches the shopper: in a counter display, a tray, on a hook or inside a secondary pack. Those conditions show whether a flat format is a practical candidate or just a visual preference.
| Format under review | Question to ask | Input that should travel with it |
|---|---|---|
| 3-side seal pouch | Does a compact, predominantly flat pack fit the portion and display plan? | Treat size, target quantity, opening direction, display route and front/back panel map. |
| Stand-up pouch | Does the filled pack need a self-standing presentation? | Desired shelf stance, base direction, feature locations and a filled-pack reference. |
| Other formats | Is another format driven by the filling route, larger portion or use sequence? | The actual fill, display and consumer-use question. |
Map the opening before final artwork
A tear notch, top seal, reclosure feature and hang hole all need a workable order of use. Design should reserve these areas before the front panel is finished. Procurement should ask how the treats are expected to enter and leave the pouch, particularly where strips, biscuits, soft chews or irregular pieces may affect access.
A 3-side seal pouch can be a useful format direction. Product protection, shelf-life objective, filling conditions and validation remain separate project questions.
If the first choice is between a pouch that stands and one that stays flat, see stand-up versus flat pouches. Use the pouch-size quote guide when dimensions are still open, or return to Pet Treat Packaging for the commercial brief.

Can a 3-side seal pouch be resealable?
A reclosure request needs review with the pouch dimensions, opening route and product use. State the intended use instead of assuming a feature from the format name.
Is a 3-side seal pouch only for single-serve treats?
No fixed serving format follows from the pouch name. Define the portion and consumer use case in the project brief.
Can a flat pouch include a hang hole?
It can be requested, but the display plan, pouch dimensions, product condition and protected artwork area need review.
